Wisconsin Senator Introduces Bills to Invest in Wisconsin Ag and Fight Food Insecurity

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin state Senator Brad Pfaff and his legislative colleagues introduced a package of bills to invest in Wisconsin agriculture and fight food insecurity.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the bills provide funding to connect food assistance organizations and schools with farmers, market Wisconsin products, support growth in value-added products, and enhance regional farmer support.

Senator Pfaff stated that investing in agriculture is investing in the future. The agriculture industry is strong, generating a $107 billion economic impact annually for the state. However, to move forward, the state needs to create new markets and connect farmers with consumers.

Senator Pfaff also stated that access to locally grown and produced food makes Wisconsinites healthier. The bills help farmers to reach more markets and develop more value-added products and recognize the needs of schools and food banks to have access to locally sourced food.

Senator Pfaff concluded by stating that building greater connections between Wisconsin farmers and consumers is a win-win for both production agriculture and consumers who want greater access to locally grown and produced food.
