Wisconsin Crop Progress Report for the Week Ending October 29th

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin had 2.8 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending October 29, 2023, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, rain across most of the state slowed fieldwork, but the corn and soybean harvests made good progress.

Corn:

• Ninety-six percent of the corn crop was mature;
• The corn for grain harvest was 35 percent complete, equal to last year but 3 days behind the average;
• Moisture content of corn harvested for grain was 23 percent;
• Corn condition was 54 percent good to excellent, up 4 percent from last week;
• Corn for silage harvest was 98 percent complete.

Soybeans:

• The soybean harvest was 77 percent complete, 5 days behind last year but 2 days ahead of the average.

Winter Wheat:

• Ninety-three percent of the winter wheat crop has been planted;
• Seventy-two percent of the winter wheat crop has emerged, 3 days behind last year but 2 days ahead of the average;
• Winter wheat condition was 65 percent good to excellent, equal to last week.

Potatoes:

• Ninety-seven percent of the potato crop has been harvested.

Pasture:

• Pasture condition was rated 33 good to excellent statewide, up 3 percent from last week.

Fall Tillage:

• Fall tillage was 36 percent complete, 11 days behind last year and 3 days behind the average.

Overall, the 2023 Wisconsin crop season is on track. The corn and soybean harvests are progressing well, and the winter wheat crop is off to a good start. Pasture conditions are good, and fall tillage is underway.
