(Raymond Neupert, WRN) If you've been interested in trying out deer hunting, the Department of Natural Resources wants to help you.

The archery deer season is now underway and if you are looking to get your kids involved the D N R wants to help. "When you're a youngster, you're dependent on a mentor, somebody who's older. And so we've got several programs in place that allow that to happen as seamlessly as possible with as few obstructions."

That's state deer program specialist Jeff Pritzl. The mentored hunt program is open to anyone 12 or older who has completed their hunter safety training. You can find a learn to hunt program and a mentor online at D N R dot W I dot Gov. Just search for "Learn To Hunt".

State deer program specialist Jeff Pritzl says the Mentored Hunting Program is not just for children anymore. "It's not just about the youth, we have a lot of what we refer to as adult onset hunters, people that didn't grow up hunting, but are curious about it, and are exploring it later in life."

Pritzl says mentored hunts not only help new hunters have access to equipment, but also the life experience you need to find and hunt deer. You can find a learn to hunt program and a mentor online at D N R dot W I dot Gov. Just search for "Learn To Hunt".
