Pittsville Man Sentenced for Child Abuse Charges

A Pittsville man was sentenced in Wood County Court for child abuse charges on Thursday.

According to court records, Brian Scapardine was accused of several acts of abuse including allegedly picking up a child and her sibling by the throat and making threats, picking a child up by their head, pointing a gun at them and threatening to shoot their horse, threatening to stab them with a fork for chewing with their mouths open, tossing a child into a lake when she annoyed him, and would wake them up by pouring ice water on them.

During his court appearance on Thursday, Scarpadine was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, child neglect. Several other charges were dismissed and read in.

He was sentenced to three years of probation, he must have anger management counseling and other counseling, no contact with the victims or any minors, absolute sobriety, take any prescribed medications, provide a DNA sample, pay a fine of $443, and pay restitution of $7,966.14 and $3,356.75.
