Proposed Legislation in Wisconsin Looks To Regulate Third-Party Food Delivery Businesses

Friday, August 11th, 2023 -- 12:01 PM

(Ted Ehlen, WRN) A proposal in the state legislature looks to regulate third-party food delivery companies.

A bill in the state Senate would require those companies to get a restaurant owner's consent prior to posting the restaurant’s menu online.  If the restaurant doesn't want its menu to be included on the delivery company’s app, the company must remove the menu within three days.

The measure would also require the company’s drivers to have basic safety knowledge, like avoiding cross-contamination.  It also would compel companies to tell restaurants what was ordered from them to make the delivery process transparent.

The bill, which has bipartisan support, is likely to go to the Senate floor sometime this fall.
