Marshfield Police Department Investigating Possible Stalking Incident at Wildwood Zoo

Thursday, July 27th, 2023 -- 4:00 PM

A recent incident in Marshfield at the Wildwood Zoo has caused some confusion.

The Marshfield Police Department has used the opportunity to respond about the incident. On July 16th, a woman reported being stalked by a man while walking through the Wildwood Zoo Park. According to the report, a couple of female subjects were walking a dog and a man was following them.

The women didn’t have their cell phones and the situation made them uneasy. There was a social media post about the incident and it blew up. The Marshfield Police Department received a lot of questions about the incident including how credible it was.

In a post of the Marshfield Police Department’s Facebook Page, Marshfield Police Chief Jody Geurink stated, “I felt that rather than respond to everyone individually, obviously there is an interest in the community and so I thought this would be the best way to reach out to everybody and let them know, yes, this was reported. We are looking into it,” said Chief Geurink.

The Department is looking for a white male in his late twenties with short brown hair, a beard, and possibly wearing glasses. The Department doesn’t always release information on certain reports, but Chief Geurink said now was a good time to deliver a message to the community.

“We just want people to take a second to make sure that they are doing what they can to make them as safe as possible, while at the same time not becoming isolated,” added Chief Geurink.

The Marshfield Police Department is investigating the incident and they are hoping for tips from the public. If you think you know where that person is, call the Marshfield Police Department at 715-387-4394.
