The man responsible for a hit and run accident in Wood County appeared in court on Monday.

On June 16th at 10:43 A.M., the Wood County Sheriff's Department received a report of a hit and run accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian with injuries in the 4100 block of George Rd, township of Seneca.

Sheriff's Department personnel discovered that an adult female was walking with a small child on the shoulder of the road, when the adult female was struck from behind and suffered injuries. The child was not physically injured during the hit and run crash.

The adult female victim, from Wisconsin Rapids, was treated at the Marshfield Medical Center. On June 19th, the Wood County Sheriff's Department arrested Cody Provost of Wisconsin Rapids in connection to the hit and run vehicle crash.

Provost admitted to investigators that he thought he hit a mailbox and later found out he hit a person. Provost also described concealing the vehicle's damaged parts as well as fixing the damage to the vehicle.

Provost is facing a charge of hit-and-run causing great bodily harm and resisting or obstructing an officer. During his preliminary hearing on Monday, probable cause was found so his court proceedings will continue.

For his arraignment, he entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him. He’s scheduled to be back in court in September.
