Marshfield School Board Approves "Bridge" Financing for Pickle Ball Courts, Facility Planning Services, and More

The Marshfield School Board Meeting approved services regarding long-range facility planning for the District.

The Board approved a Request for Proposal for facility planning services to assist with long-range facility planning, which will look at items like why the recent referendum failed, projects that need to be done, etc.

The Board also approved supplemental pay for instructional staff. This will be paid to staff that meet the criteria of annual credentialing as defined by the Alternative Compensation Model. The District has determined it has up to $28,854 to spend on credentialing pay for the next school year.

The Board also approved a resolution for a one-time stipend of $2,000 for 12-month staff and they approved a resolution for a one-time stipend of $1,600 for 10-month staff. The Board also approved updates to the District’s Employee Savings Plan and the Deferred Compensation Plan.

The Board also approved the agreement for construction of a pickle ball court and tennis court improvement projects. Along with that, they approved the reallocation of $250,000 of Unassigned Fund Balance to Assigned Fund Balance for purposes of "bridge" financing the construction costs of pickle ball courts and tennis court improvements.

To date, fundraising efforts by outside groups have produced $243,332 in donations with another $163,768 in pledges to be paid in future years. The total construction cost is estimated at $439,284, leaving $195,952 in funds that need to be temporarily provided by the school district, known as a “bridge” payment.

The Board also approved the 2023-2024 Bargaining Agreement Between Board and Professional Staff, the Professional Staff 2023-2024 Alternative Compensation Methods, Wage Increases for Support Staff for 2023-2024, and Approval of Wage Increases for Administrative and District Level Staff for 2023-2024.

The Board also approved updates to several policies including:

  • Definitions,
  • Association Memberships,
  • Curriculum Development,
  • Adoption of Courses of Study,
  • Special Observance Days,
  • Use of Tobacco and Nicotine by Staff, Students and on School Premises,
  • Attendance,
  • Administration of Medication/Emergency Care,
  • Student Anti-Harassment,
  • Facility Security,
  • Environmental Health and Safety Program,
  • Control of Casual-Contact Communicable Diseases,
  • Religious Activities and Observances,
  • And Patriotic Activities and Observances.

The Board also approved the annual declaration and parent notice of the District's student academic standards that will be in effect for the 2023-2024 school year, pursuant to section 120.12(13) and section 118.30(1g)(a)1 of the state statutes. They also approved resignations and new personnel.

The Board also approved several donations including:

Grant Elementary:

  • $3,500 from the PTO for playground equipment;
  • And $125.86 from the PTO for field trip busing

Madison Elementary:

  • $150 from the PTO for 6th Grade Track Day

Washington Elementary:

  • $350 from the PTO for 6th Grade Track Day

Boys Basketball Program:

  • $200 from Mitten’s Furniture-Appliance-Electronics;
  • $1,000 from Marshfield Convention & Visitors Bureau;
  • And $250 from EZFit Mantels LLC DBA Fireplace Supply

Boys Golf Program:

  • $1,000 from Terry Frankland for golf bags

Softball Program:

  • $1,202.48 for coach bus upgrades

FFA Program:

  • $6,658 from the Marshfield FFA Alumni;
  • And $500 from Chili Implement.

During the Communications from the Public portion of the meeting, one person spoke on behalf of Moms for Liberty and another spoke, again, regarding the Districts choice of not recognizing Salutatorian and Valedictorian.
