Dump Truck Update and More at Granton Village Board Meeting

Friday, December 11th, 2020 -- 10:01 AM

-The Granton Village Board heard an update on their new dump truck.

According to the unofficial minutes from the meeting, the Dump truck package install has been postponed.  Monroe is estimating the new start date of December 17th and insurance has been added.  The board also heard an update on speed limit signs.  The speed limit signs are installed and seem to be slowing down traffic.  The board discussed moving the speed signs periodically.  One suggestion noted was moving the north sign closer to Fremont Road to slow traffic before the school.  The board also heard an update on the pond.  The pond levels have increased and are maintaining.  The board also discussed the farm animal ordinance.  They contacted the DNR and there were no concerns noted in regards to runoff into the creek.  It was suggested that limits be put in place based on acreage.  There was no information obtained regarding phosphorus compliance and any water runoff concerns.  The board also discussed hunting in the village.  Village Ordinance 43 addresses discharging firearms within the village limits.

This ordinance prohibits discharging all firearms including BB guns.  A village resident requested permission to shoot deer with a crossbow.  Hunting with a crossbow is not specifically mentioned and the board discussed, in great depth, hunting in the village.  There are several properties on the edge of town but a deer shot with a crossbow will likely run possibly toward the park or cemetery.   A motion was made to prohibit hunting in the Village, which was approved 2 votes yes and 1 no.  Finally, the board heard the president’s update.  The president stated a car ran off County Road K and across a residence.  The resident asked if a guard rail could be placed on the road.  They did advise that K is a county road and the request would need to be made to the county.
