Bill Easing Abortion Restrictions Going Nowhere in State Senate

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023 -- 11:00 AM

(Bob Hague, WRN) A bill to ease abortion restrictions in Wisconsin is unlikely to advance at the Capitol.

The Journal Sentinel reports that the measure proposed by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has been referred to a state Senate committee where it’s unlikely to receive a public hearing. Vos said in March there were enough Republican votes to pass the bill out of the Assembly, but Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu has said he’ll keep it off the floor in that chamber.

Even if it were to pass, Democratic Governor Tony Evers has pledged a veto of any bill that falls short of restoring full rights to abortion in Wisconsin.
