City of Marshfield to Hear From Developers Regarding Proposed Miniature Golf Course

Tuesday, May 16th, 2023 -- 10:00 AM

(Jamie Rokus, Marshfield News Herald) The city will again hear from the developers of a proposed miniature golf course that could be built across the street from Vandehey Waters Aquatic Center.

According to Jamie Rokus with the Marshfield News Herald, Benjamin Austin will present plans for Hole In One Mini Golf LLC at Tuesday’s Plan Commission meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall, according to the meeting agenda.

Plans call for an 18-hole adventure theme-style course with rough and sand features to be built on an L-shaped lot at 1901 S. Central Ave., according to city documents. It would include a clubhouse for admissions and concessions and a patio for customers to enjoy a pizza or novelty ice cream afterward, the documents state.

“We hope to provide the people of Marshfield a memorable outdoor experience with their families,” the developers wrote in their proposal. “The Hole In One Mini Golf project will further improve the southern portion of the city of Marshfield by complementing the already popular Wildwood Zoo as well as Vandehey Waters.”

Plans for the project were first presented to the city’s Plan Commission in August when the developers requested the property be rezoned to community mixed use-planned development. However, the property was improperly rezoned at that time and now commission members are being asked to approve a request to rezone the 1.159-acre space that has been vacant since 2015 to planned development, according to documents.

They also will be asked to review and approve the general development plan for the proposed miniature golf course. “The proposed development intends to provide recreational opportunities to residents and visitors, which is a recommendation discussed several times in the comprehensive plan,” Planner Bryce Hembrook wrote.

“One of the key opportunities mentioned is to promote more family recreational opportunities in the city. The proposed development is located across from the Vandehey Aquatic Center and will likely attract visitors that plan on using both facilities in the spring, summer and fall months.”

If the rezoning is approved, it will be forwarded to the Common Council and two readings of the proposed ordinance will be held. If the Plan Commission and Common Council approve the general development plan, the developers will submit their specific implementation plan, which provides more in-depth information and plans.
