(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin farmers are among the targets of scammers impersonating Capitol Police in an attempt to solicit donations.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, state agencies have issued warnings about fraudulent calls and texts that falsely claim to be raising funds for the families of fallen officers.

The scam is particularly concerning for farmers, as agriculture is a key industry in Wisconsin and many farmers are known for their generosity and willingness to support law enforcement. The fraudulent callers are taking advantage of this reputation, hoping to exploit the goodwill of farmers for their own gain.

State agencies are urging farmers and others to be wary of unsolicited calls or texts requesting donations, and to verify the legitimacy of any charitable organization before making a donation. They also advise never to give out personal information or send money to an unfamiliar organization without doing research first.

Farmers and other residents of Wisconsin are encouraged to report any suspicious calls or texts to the appropriate authorities. By staying vigilant and informed, we can help protect ourselves and our communities from these types of scams.

It is important to note that while this particular scam may be targeting farmers, it is a reminder that anyone can be a victim of fraud. By taking steps to protect ourselves and our personal information, we can reduce the risk of falling prey to these types of scams and help ensure the safety and security of our communities.
