Granton School Board Swears in Re-Elected Members and Approves Several Items

The Granton School Board began their meeting last week with the Oath of Office for their re-elected members.

Doug Eichten, Mark Elmhorst, and Sheryl Young took their Official Oath of Office from the April 4th Spring Election. The Board also approved the 2023-24 Transportation Services Agreement with Neillsville, approved the shared Library/IMC Director with Loyal School District at 50 percent each for the 2023-24 school year, and approved the 2023-24 school calendar with changes as presented.

The Board also approved the Summer School classes as presented, approved School Board Policy Chapter 3, Section E as presented, and approved the 2023-24 CESA 10 Service Contract.

Following a closed session, the Board approved the resignation of Ashley Ruzic and thanked her for her service, approved the contract for Tina Spannan as Occupational Therapist for the 2023-24 school year, and approved the leave of absence request from Katie Reider.For the Spotlight on Education, Principal Amanda Kraus presented a slideshow on the Elementary Programs.

The December Characteristic/Trait was honesty. The Students of the Month selected representing that trait were Ariyana Sensenig for the Elementary, Bella Haumschild for the Middle School, and Tori Seif for the High School. Jessica Schier was selected as Staff Person of the Month.

The Board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Principal Amanda Kraus reported on:

  • Rock the Test was the theme for state testing;
  • A $4000 grant was awarded to the school to create a book trail in the school forest;
  • And the Cloverbelt Scholar and Scholar Athlete banquets have been held recently.

Superintendent James Kuchta reported on:

  • Recent meetings he attended including the Legislative Supper at Medford and the State Legislatures Joint Finance Committee Hearing at UW-Eau Claire;
  • And discussed and viewed aerial pictures of the proposed electrical work to be done for the Electric Bus charging stations.

The Board also heard the Student Council Report. Student Council Representative Alexis Pongratz reported on:

  • The Alumni tournament is April 22nd;
  • Track meet at Spencer on April 21st;
  • The Athletic Banquet will be on April 24th;
  • FFA has the State CDE contest in Madison on April 27th and Spring Awards Night on May 10th;
  • Student Council is working on teacher appreciation gifts;
  • NHS Talent Show on May 17th;
  • And State Solo and Ensemble on May 6th.

During the public comments portion of the meeting, a community member asked about the status of collaboration with other districts and if there would be any updates coming about that, or future agenda items. Finally, it was mentioned that a thank you card was received from Kevin and Dawn Pankratz.
