Your Tax Refund May be Smaller this Year

Friday, April 14th, 2023 -- 1:01 PM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) Your 2022 tax refund may be a bit smaller.

Your 2022 income tax refund might be a bit smaller than in years past. IRS Spokesman Christopher Miller says many benefits programs that offered money have tapered off. "There was no stimulus payments, and there was no larger Child Tax Credit. In addition, the Child and Dependent Care Credit goes back to the normal level."

Miller says that several pandemic-era stimulus packages went away, including expanded child care and dependant credits. "In addition to that, in 2022, you do not get a deduction for charitable donations unless you itemize your taxes."

Miller says that means many people may not see a refund at all on their federal returns.
