Black River Falls Man Sentenced for Recklessly Endangering Safety

Friday, March 17th, 2023 -- 11:01 AM

A man arrested for firing a gun in the City of Black River Falls was sentenced in Jackson County Court on Thursday.

According to the Black River Falls Police Department, around 1:54am on New Year’s Day last year, they were called to the 200 block of North 14th Street. Roy Thompson was allegedly running around at the location with a handgun and shooting.

Thompson was arrested by the authorities after he attempted to run. Assisting the Police Department were the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center.

Thompson was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, 1st degree recklessly endangering safety and a convicted, out-of-state felon possessing a firearm. Several other charges were dismissed and read in.

He was sentenced to five years of probation. But should he fail his probation, he will have to serve the imposed and stayed sentence of seven years in prison and five years of extended supervision.
