Wausau Committee Discusses Proposal Regarding Parking Options During Snow Emergencies

Monday, March 13th, 2023 -- 8:00 AM

A Wausau Committee introduced a proposal that could expand parking options during snow emergencies.

According to the proposal by Wausau’s City Improvements and Street Maintenance Committee, residents would be able to park in a downtown parking ramp if there isn’t enough space for them to park on their own property.

Under the current ordinance, during a snow emergency, if a vehicle is parked and impedes snow removal, the car will be towed and the owner is fined $100. The City would have to work through hurdles including those who designated permit spots in downtown ramps.

Those living on the City’s northeast side have already said they’ve had parking issues during snow emergencies. No action was taken on the proposal and won’t be discussed again until their next meeting on April 13th.
