MARSHFIELD P.D. LOOKING FOR MISSING WOMAN

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007 -- 2:17 PM

Marshfield police continue investigating the disappearance of the owner of a local travel agency under investigation for fraud.

42-year-old Marcia Meshak of Marshfield hasn't been heard from since last Monday, according to Police Chief Joe Stroik.

Marshfield police are looking into nearly 30 reported cases of fraud totaling around $90,000, but the allegations didn't surface until after her disappearance last week.

"At that point, she was not under investigation. She may be aware now, but it's hard to tell depending on the circumstances," Stroik told CWB News Wednesday morning.

Stroik says there are two separate investigations: Meshak's disappearance and dozens of cases in the past week purchasing travel arrangements, but finding those arrangements hadn't been made.

"Their credit card or their checking account would be billed or charged for those traveling arrangements. Now folks are finding out the travel arrangements were never made, although the money was deducted from their account," Stroik says. "They don't have any travel arrangements and they don't know how to find and speak with Marcia."

It remains unclear if Meshak disappeared because of the alleged fraud, or if the alleged fraud is a result of her disappearance, Stroik says.

Marshfield Police consider Meshak "endangered," which means investigators are concerned some harm may come to her, but Stroik would not elaborate.

Police are also looking for Meshak's vehicle, a 2002 black Jeep Liberty four-door with license GCMASAP.
