A local downtown is set to get a boost from a big state grant.Governor Jim Doyle announced Friday the Village of Alma Center will receive a $156,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities program. The grant will be used to help the village improve its downtown infrastructure.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is reconstructing State Trunk Highway 95 through downtown Alma Center. The village will replace water and sewer lines, drainage pipes, a pedestrian bridge and sidewalks. The project also includes the development of a downtown parking lot and park and the installation of benches and flower boxes.
It will use the grant to install a new downtown sewer system, purchase land for a park and gateway, and furnish public parking. The total project will cost around $1.5-million.
