UW Cancer Center Participating In Breast Cancer Vaccine Trial

(Ted Ehlen, WRN) The UW Carbone Cancer Center joins two other American research institutions now participating in a breast cancer vaccine clinical trial.

The center announces Tuesday the trial will test a novel vaccine designed to prevent the recurrence of triple-negative breast cancer, which accounts for 10-15% of breast cancers diagnosed. Triple-negative breast cancer cells lack three features targeted by particular drugs that are currently available.

That circumstance results in fewer treatment options.  A release from the center says participants in the trial will be monitored regularly to see the effects of the vaccine.

Johns Hopkins University and the University of Washington School of Medicine will partner with the Carbone Center in administering the trial.
