Merrillan Man Sentenced for Operating Under the Influence

A Merrillan man charged after driving drunk and crashing into a power pole with three passengers in the vehicle was sentenced in Jackson County Court.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened back in 2018 on March 11th on Highway 121 in the Township of Northfield. Witnesses say they saw Carson Scholze finish a beer at a local tavern and then drive away.

When deputies arrived at the scene, beer cans were scattered everywhere. Scholze pleaded guilty to 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, causing injury while operating under the influence, endanger safety, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Several other charges were dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to one year in jail and two years of probation. He also had his license revoked for eight months and he must have an ignition interlock device for one year.
