Evers Addresses Shortage of Prosecutors & Public Defenders

(Bob Hague, WRN) The governor promises help for hard pressed prosecutors in Wisconsin.

Governor Tony Evers addressed that during a press conference on Tuesday. “We need more prosecutors. We need more . . . public defenders.” The Democratic governor indicating he’ll provide funding in his state budget proposal.

“Making sure that we have enough people defending people that are charged with crimes and those that prosecute them. There's a huge shortage. People are overworked and it's ridiculous.”

Abortion is now illegal in Wisconsin, but are there enough prosecutors to charge providers? “That issue is separate from this issue. We will be proposing making sure that we have enough people defending people that are charged with crimes and those that prosecute them.”

In Dodge County, the district attorney’s office is staffed part-time by three retired prosecutors, after the DA resigned due to a staffing shortage.
