WOOD COUNTY BOARD MEMBER ARRESTED FOR SOLICITATION
Wednesday, September 20th, 2006 -- 1:05 PM
A Wood County supervisor has resigned following his arrest for soliciting a prostitute. And it was the supervisor himself who called police after the woman demanded money even though he tried canceling the visit.
Police say 64-year-old James Gignac admitted to paging through classifieds and calling a number to hire a stripper who he apparently wanted to do more than strip.
Gignac was in La Crosse for the Counties Association Convention.
The retired Wisconsin Rapids fire chief said he gave the woman 200 dollars before she left to buy condoms and never returned.
Police set up a sting and arrested the woman they say took Gignac's money. Gignac said (quote) "I know what I did was wrong; I tried to stop it.? He said he was taking pain pills and had had a couple of drinks prior to making the call.
Gignac apparently also feels like the victim in the case, telling the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune that he was trying to do the right thing by calling the cops, but ?got cited for it?. No criminal charges have been filed.
