Marathon County Law Enforcement Takes More Than $40,000 Worth of Fentanyl and Other Drugs Off the Streets

Thursday, January 12th, 2023 -- 2:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Marathon County Sheriff's Office and numerous other local law enforcement agencies took more than 40 thousand dollars worth of fentanyl and other drugs off the streets on Wednesday.

Investigations Captain Jeff Stefonek says a bust like this impacts everyone. "Obviously this is a significant amount and we hope it will have a great impact on the amount of fentanyl and other drugs being distributed in this area."

He says they've seen fentanyl take over as the dominant drug in the area, and it's caused significant problems in the last year. "Users who aren't use to something that potent or users that have been incarcirated for some time and come back and use something they're not use to are overdosing."

Stefonek says four different drugs were seized as part of the haul including more than 103 grams of fentanyl, which amounts to more than one thousand doses on the open market. "A dosage is refered to as a point on the street and it stands for a tenth of a gram, so a .1 gras of fentayl or heroin."

The suspect, Jacob Gould, was arrested after he failed to pull over for a traffic stop in Marathon County, leading to a pursuit both in vehicle and on foot. He had Fentanyl and some meth on him at that time, and officers found more drugs including cocaine and THC at his home. He now faces 11 charges in state court, and could be charged in federal court as well. Court action against him is pending.
