During his time with the National Guard, Deputy Slempkes was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Like Deputy Day, Deputy Slempkes graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point where he majored in Economics Social Science and graduated from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Academy at Northcentral Technical College, here in Wausau.
