TRIPLE SHOOTING LEAVES TWO DEAD NEAR WAUSAU

Thursday, September 14th, 2006 -- 10:04 AM

A shooting near Wausau has killed two people and critically wounded another.

Police say a man fatally shot his estranged wife in front of five of their children and wounded her boyfriend before shooting himself to death outside a home at Weston early yesterday.

According to police, 39-year-old Chor Xiong hid in the basement of his home around seven a-m, waiting for his wife and her boyfriend ... and when they arrived to pick up her children, he came outside and opened fire at them with a shotgun and then shot himself.

His 29-year-old wife Padalina Thao was pronounced dead at the scene. Xiong died later at a hospital. The boyfriend, 41-year-old Pao Chang, remains in critical condition tonight at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

According to the Wausau Daily Herald, Thao and Chang worked at Great Lakes Cheese in Wausau. The newspaper's Web site quotes a company official who declined to give his name as saying counselors have been made available to help employees deal with the deaths.
