Marathon County's New Sheriff Takes the Oath of Office

Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 -- 10:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) Marathon County Sheriff Chad Billeb officially took the oath of office on Tuesday, saying his passion for helping people and for the community will not change with his new job title, according to Mike Leischner with WSAU.

"And I'm here because I want to see things better for me and for my family and for everyone else in the community. And I think that any of us in law enforcement, that's why we're doing this, we're doing this because we want to serve and we want to make an impact."

Billeb credits outgoing Sheriff Scott Parks with helping him prepare for the gig. "And his philosophies, the way he treats people, I've seen it from the best. How he has served and I intend to be very similar in that way."

Billeb says he and outgoing sheriff Scott Parks have been tied at the hip for nearly ten years, meaning his influence will never be too far from the department. "I know he'll never be too far away and I know that beyond just the professional relationship, our friendship, is going to carry the day with that. There will always be that mentor available for me if I need it."

Billeb says his biggest short-term priority is staffing. "We struggle to find qualified candidates to work in our jail and our 911 Center. That's not unique to Marathon County. That's everywhere in the state. We've made some small strides, but there's more work to be done."

Marathon County Judge Scott Corbett administered the oath of office, Clerk Kim Trueblood also administered the oath of office to all deputies working under Billeb.
