The announcement of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Home and Community Based Services grant of $600,000 to the All-Abilities Playground at Lunda Park has added significant momentum to their ongoing fundraising campaign.

The community has shown unwavering support and enthusiasm for this project from the beginning. The startup grant by the Black River Area Foundation, the matching grant from the Lunda Charitable Fund, and the generous donations from community members, organizations, and area businesses have made this project a reality for our community.

These funds, along with the HBCS grant, have propelled this project to the next level. The initial fundraising goal of $600,000 was based on a general bid for equipment, surfacing, and construction of the playground.

Meeting the first phase of the fundraising goal has allowed them to move forward on requesting proposals for the final design and construction of the All-Abilities Playground at Lunda Park. Even though they have met their initial goal, they are not reducing their fundraising efforts.

The first phase did not incorporate enhancements into the park such as fencing, protective sunshades, security features, and upgraded restroom facilities to accommodate all ages and abilities.

The second phase of the project is focused on providing necessary safety and security features that will enhance the experience for all who use the park. In addition, depending on funding, they may be able to add other pieces of equipment that could further meet the needs of the community.

Therefore, they are now focused on fundraising for the second phase of the project. They have set the fundraising goal to $1,200,000 in an attempt to cover all upgraded park equipment and enhancements.

Additional money raised beyond the cost of the project will remain in a fund for maintenance and future needs of the park. They are very grateful to all who have supported this project. For anyone looking to support this project, they ask for your donations.

You can go to the City of Black River Falls website for further information on donating to the project. It is an exciting time in the community knowing that they will have a safe place for people of all ages and abilities to gather and enjoy.
