OEM GROUNDBREAKING SET

Monday, September 11th, 2006 -- 11:11 AM

Ground will be broken Thursday for a new facility that many in the area hope will fill the void left by the closing of the Fleetguard Nelson muffler plant.

OEM Fabricators Incorporated, based in Woodville, is set to build a new 54,000-square foot facility on some recently annexed land. The new building will sit on the east side of the Neillsville Industrial Park.

Since OEM announced they were coming to town back in July, Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy says things have gone smoothly.

?The annexation is done, the amended TIF is done and we have the land purchased,? Murphy says. ?It?s all coming along and everything should be ready to go on Thursday morning.?

The City Council is expected to consider deeding the land to OEM at a meeting Wednesday night, Murphy says.

Thursday?s event will be a ceremonial groundbreaking, but OEM hopes to begin actual construction soon.

?They've been working with different contractors. The want to get the cement in as soon as possible,? Murphy says.

OEM officials hope to have the plant occupied sometime during the 1st quarter of 2007.

While they've conservatively announced they?ll hire 100 employees, officials say up to 200 might be employed here at some point.

Murphy recently attended OEM?s 20th anniversary event in Woodville, at that time, company officials told her they had already received 300 job applications for the new facility.

We will broadcast the groundbreaking live on Memories 1370 AM beginning at 11 a.m.
