Marshfield Street Division Ready for Snow Removal

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from Tuesday, December 13, at 6:00 PM until Wednesday, December 14, at noon.

A Winter Storm Watch also has been updated to be in effect from Wednesday, December 14, at noon until Thursday, December 15 at 9:00 AM.  The Marshfield Street Division is currently preparing for the anticipation of heavy snow and icy conditions by equipping pieces of snow removal equipment with front plows, side plows and salt spreaders.

Snow removal for the City of Marshfield is a collaborative process with several equipment operators from other City departments including Parks and Recreation contributing into clearing snow and ice of roadways and sidewalks.

In order to make the most efficient use of available resources, we have established priorities using the assumption that the severity of a storm is not beyond the normal capabilities of the City’s snow removal resources. Depending on the nature of the snowstorm, deviations could occur.

The established priorities are as follows: Priority 1 - Primary Streets (Arterials) and hills, Priority 2 - Secondary Streets (Collectors), Priority 3 - Public Parking Lots (Downtown District), Priority 4 - All other Residential Streets (Locals) including Cul-de-Sacs & Alleys.

As a convenience, there are several sandboxes filled with sand located on the corners near schools, so the crossing guards and residents can use the sand when the sidewalks get icy to keep pedestrians safe.

Also, as a reminder, from November through April, overnight parking is not allowed on City streets.  Unattached accessories such as trailers and boats are prohibited from being parked on any city street overnight.

Emergencies or permission granted by an on-duty Shift Commander in the Police Department are the only exceptions to overnight winter parking restrictions. Please watch for changes in the upcoming weather forecasts and check the City website frequently for any additional information regarding the possibility of poor driving conditions or weather-related emergencies.
