LONGTIME GRANTON TEACHER KILLED IN ACCIDENT

Thursday, August 24th, 2006 -- 10:24 AM

The Granton School District has suffered another tragic loss through an automobile accident.

This time, a former Granton English teacher died in car-versus-semi accident on HWY 10 just east of Neillsville Wednesday afternoon.

57-year-old Kay Yach of Marshfield was the driver of a car that witnesses say veered into the path of an oncoming semi in the Town of Grant.

The accident happened at around 1:10 p.m.

Yach was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wisconsin State patrol, Neillsville Fire and Ambulance, Granton Fire Department and Granton First Responders assisted at the scene.

This is Clark County?s 7th traffic fatality of the year and 2nd in as many days.

This is also the third traffic fatality involving Granton staff or students in the past year.

During the last school year, two students, Dusty Ohnesorge and Amanda Peterson, were killed in accidents.

Principal Craig Anderson says Yach taught 8th grade and high school English and was employed with the district for over 20 years, but could not comment on her employment status at the time of her death.

Anderson says the school will be open for students and staff today.

?It being the summertime, we're not sure what to expect today,? Anderson told us. ?The school is open, we do have our guidance counselor in today.?

?Unfortunately, we're getting to be quite accustomed to tragedies around here.?
