Co-Owners of Pop Up COVID Testing Service to Pay State Fines for Failure to Provide Timely Testing

Thursday, October 27th, 2022 -- 8:02 AM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) The co-owners of a company that set up pop-up COVID-19 testing sites will be paying a fine to the state.

An Illinois company that failed to provide timely COVID-19 testing has been fined by the state. State consumer protection director Michael Domke says the owners of the Center For Covid Control, Aleya Siyaj and Akbar Syed, will have to pay over 22 thousand dollars for failure to provide the services they said they would. "The demand overwhelmed the capabilities of the business to provide what they were offering."

Domke says Siyaj and Syed, the co-owners of the Center for Covid Control, failed to provide the testing services they promised people."And instead of slowing down or, you know, trying to throttle their business to keep up with what they're able to produce, they just allowed themselves to keep taking more and more and more."

Domke says Siyaj and Syed closed up in January of this year after multiple investigations showed they failed to provide services. "So I think the culmination of our agency and other agencies looking into their activities, led to them saying, Alright, enough is enough and shutting their doors."

Siyaj and Syed will have to pay Wisconsin over 22 thousand dollars in civil forfeiture. Multiple other states have lawsuits pending against the couple.
