The Youth Risk Behavior Survey is a comprehensive health and wellness surveillance tool developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and administered by states and municipalities, including here in Clark County.

Since 1993, Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction has administered the YRBS to a representative sample ofWisconsin high school students every two years. The results of that survey administration form the basis forWisconsin’s official, state-level YRBS statistics.

Those state-level statistics only represent the state as a whole and cannot be broken down to other geographic levels, such as county, municipality, or school district. In the 2020-21 school year, there were public schools in Clark county that served high school students, including public charter, virtual, or other types of schools.

6 of these schools (55%) participated in the survey. 4 of the public high schools in the county (36%) met or exceeded the minimum 50% school-level response rate, which was one criteria for generating county-level data. Across the county, the average school-level response rate was 60%.

Participating schools included: Granton High, Colby High, Abbotsford Middle/Senior High, Owen-Withee High, Greenwood High, and Neillsville High. A total of 696 usable responses were collected from the 6 participating schools listed above.

This represented 48% of public high school students in the county. The report looked at items like sexual behavior, drug and alcohol use, mental health, school climate, and much more.
