Another Dry Week for Wisconsin Farmers to Work in the Field

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) The continued dry weather conditions meant farmers across Wisconsin stayed busy during the past week.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the last Crop/Weather Report from the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service, which stated producers made rapid progress on harvesting soybeans and chopping corn for silage.

Many who were ahead of schedule took to the fields to prepare for next year by tilling some ground. Topsoil moisture condition levels were rated four percent very short, 21 percent short, 73 percent adequate and two percent surplus.

As of Sunday, 85 percent of the state's corn crop was rated as mature. Crop reporters estimate that the corn for grain harvest was about seven percent complete, four days behind last year, but one day ahead of the five-year average. The corn for silage progress was closer to 77 percent complete.

All but eight percent of the soybeans were dropping leaves. Farmers have just over a third of the beans harvested, which is three days behind the 2021 progress, but four days ahead of the average. Seventy-seven percent of the winter wheat was planted, with 46 percent of the crop emerged.

The fourth cutting of alfalfa was reported at 97 percent complete. And growers have 26 percent of the fall tillage wrapped up for the year. That's one day behind last year, but 10 days ahead of normal for this time of year.
