New Partnership Between Milwaukee Tools and UW-Steven's Point Conservation and Natural Resources Program

Thursday, August 25th, 2022 -- 9:00 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A historic investment by Milwaukee Tools for the UWSP Conservation and Natural Resources program.

According to Mike Leischner of WSAU, the Wisconsin company will be donating one million dollars worth of tools and personal protective equipment to students over the next seven years as part of an endowment. UWSP Chancellor Thomas Gibson said, "This will create the first every opportunities for forestry and natural resource management students."

He says this will give students the chance to work with the same equipment the pros work with. "This includes chainsaws, pruning saws, and blowers, all that are used in the college of natural resources courses throughout the year. In addition, each DNR student will receive a personal protective equipment pack."

Dean of the College of Natural Resources Brian Sloss says students will also get a chance to test out new tools and equipment before they hit the market. "To help test new technology and products. And provide feedback for our partners at Milwaukee Tool as the bring inovative, outdoor products to our field. Our ability to help Milwaukee Tool and their products will help us continue our growth and development, not only for them, but for our students."

Dean of the College of Natural Resources Brian Sloss says he sees the partnership as a way of helping move the industry forward. "It will teach our students to not only use this equipment, but think forward. Think innovation. Think growth. What can you change with what you're using to make your life better."

The endowment runs through 20-30 and also includes safety training for students and a personal protective equipment package for each student that will be given to them when they take their six-week summer field course.
