Today is the August 9th Primary Election in Wisconsin.

It’s important for voters to remember that in the primary you can only vote for one party. For example, if you choose Republican, you can’t vote for any democratic candidates. If you do, your ballot will be tossed out.

There isn’t much in the way of local elections on today’s ballot. Current Clark County Sheriff Scott Haines is running unopposed on the Republican side. Current Clark County Clerk of Courts Heather Bravener is running unopposed on the Democratic side.

Statewide races include Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, and a Wisconsin U.S. Senator. Also, for Clark County, there are candidates for Wisconsin’s U.S. Representative in District 7, Richard Ausman on the Democratic side and David Kunelius or Tom Tiffany on the Republican side.

Also, for Clark County, voters can choose a candidate for State Senator for District 23, Sandra Scholz, Brian Westrate, or Jesse James on the Republican side, and a Representative for Wisconsin’s 68th Assembly District, Nate Otto on the Democratic side and Hillarie Roth, Karen Hurd, or Chris Connell on the Republican side.

It’s also important to remember that you do need your ID to vote. Acceptable forms of ID include a Wisconsin driver’s license, but it doesn’t need to have the Real ID marker on it.

Also, a State of Wisconsin ID card, a U.S. Passport Book or Card, a Tribal ID Card, a Veterans Affairs ID, a U.S. Uniformed Services Card, a Student ID Card (plus enrollment verification if the card is expired), and a Certificate of Naturalization.

You can also use a Wisconsin Driver’s License or Wisconsin State ID Card receipt if you’re waiting on a new license or ID. Finally, if you filed a Wisconsin DMV ID Petition, you can use the photo receipt for voting.
