The Clark County Fair is right around the corner and that means it’s time to crown a new Fairest of the Fair.

There are four candidates vying for the title this year. Josie Voigt of Granton is being sponsored by the Neillsville Optimist Club. She’s a graduate of Neillsville High School and she began our interview by talking a little about herself.

"I am going to be a junior in college this year at Stevens Point. I am majoring in biochemistry-premed, minoring in behavior, health, and society. It's kinda of a mouthful. I'm going to need a little arrow on my diploma that says, 'see other side.'"

"I actually just finished my summer classes, so this my first real week of summer. So, that's really exciting. I've just been relaxing, reading, I like to bake a lot, so I've been doing that. Otherswise, there's not much to tell. My life is just school right now. And I'm okay with that."

Josie also discussed what made her decide to run for Fairest of the Fair.

"I know it's a cheesy answer, but it really is a way for me to get better involved. I never got the chance to raise animals or show animals like that. I was in 4H when I was younger, but I started up with martial arts and that kind of took over a lot of my time."

"And now I have time and I heard that you get to do a lot of really cool stuff. I'm really excited if I get on court because you get to give ribbons to little kids if they do well. I'm really excited for that. Just a way for me to do something special."

Fairest of the Fair will be the first type of event like this that Josie has done.

"My best friend was Miss Neillsville two years ago, so I have kind of a little bit of experience with it. But this is definitly a step outside of my comfort zone. So, this is going to be my first experience with something like this."

This year’s candidates will replace the outgoing court of Jaidyn Teschner of Loyal as Fairest of the Fair, Marie Jorgensen of Neillsville as 1st Attendant, and Jayda Harris of Neillsville as 2nd Attendant.

The Fairest of the Fair Coronation is taking place on Wednesday, August 10th at 7pm at the Clark County Fairgrounds. The Clark County Fair runs from Wednesday, August 10th-Sunday, August 14th. Make sure you tune in tomorrow to hear from the next Fairest of the Fair candidate.
