The Clark County Fair is right around the corner and that means it’s time to crown a new Fairest of the Fair.

There are four candidates vying for the title this year. Kyra Rakovec of Neillsville is being sponsored by GRIT Nutrition. She’s a 2022 graduate of Neillsville High School and will be attending UW-Oshkosh this fall. Kyra began our interview by talking a little about herself.

"My parents are Ben and Bridgette Rakovec. I've lived in Neillsville for the past 10 years. I moved here in 2nd grade, if that says anything. I've been showing at the fair ever since I could. I've showed pigs the past four years and rabbits beforehand for many years. I can't tell you how many.

Kyra said her time on the Miss Winter Carnival and Miss Neillsville Court led her to try for Fairest of the Fair. "I was part of Miss Neillsville this past court and that was a great experience."

Riley: "Is Miss Neillsville what led you to try for Fairest of the Fair?"

Kyra: "It started off with Miss Winter Carnival in 2018 and then Michelle Friemoth texted me and said 'hey, want to try this?' And I was like, 'I mean I can.' And then I really enjoyed that. I like the community sense of it and seeing everybody and meeting new people. So then, I was like 'I can do this.'

Kyra also discussed the extracurricular activities she was involved in during her high school career.

"I've done a lot. I was wrestling manager for four years of high school and track manager for the four years. I was in FFA since 7th grade and 4H for the longest time. We had an Art Club during my first two years, but then it faded away. So, I was a part of that, but we didn't have that the last two years of high school."

"I did show choir a year, but it wasn't my jam. I did "Little Buddies" where you take an elementary student and work with them. That was a lot of fun. That's most of my activities!"

This year’s candidates will replace the outgoing court of Jaidyn Teschner of Loyal as Fairest of the Fair, Marie Jorgensen of Neillsville as 1st Attendant, and Jayda Harris of Neillsville as 2nd Attendant.

The Fairest of the Fair Coronation is taking place on Wednesday, August 10th at 7pm at the Clark County Fairgrounds. The Clark County Fair runs from Wednesday, August 10th-Sunday, August 14th. Make sure you tune in tomorrow to hear from the next Fairest of the Fair candidate.
