(Mike Leischner, WSAU) It's the start of another no-mow May in Wausau and several other communities across Central Wisconsin.

According to Mike Leischner of WSAU, Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg says this year the city has decided to forgo the sign-up and yard sign requirements, meaning anyone can participate without lifting a finger if they so choose. “People can stop by if they’d like a sign. If, maybe, they want to let their neighbors know what’s going on, if they feel judged. But you don’t have to have a sign.”

Rosenberg says she's had discussions with other cities and towns that have jumped on the no mow May bandwagon, some of whom have simply copies the language in Wausau's ordinance. “This is one of those things that people just flat out said, ‘send me your ordinance, we’re just going to copy it verbatim. We want to do it.’”

Other communities including Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids have jumped on board, but many areas are still requiring residents to sign up. Check with your local municipal hall or office if you have questions about sign up or of they are participating.
