INJURY AVOIDED AS SEMI HITS BUS

Friday, April 14th, 2006 -- 9:46 AM

Neillsville school officials are thankful no one was hurt after a minor collision between a school bus and a semi Thursday afternoon.

Neillsville Administrator John Gaier says the collision occurred just east of Neillsville at the intersection of Highway 10 and Cardinal Avenue. Initial reports indicate a bus nearly pulled into the path of an oncoming semi when attempting to enter Highway 10.

?The bus started to enter the highway, stopped immediately.? Gaier explains. ?The rear bumper of the trailer of the truck caught the very front bumper of our bus.?

?We're just thankful no one was hurt,? Gaier says.

An exterior crossing gate bracket was pulled off in the incident.

There were children on the bus, but there were no injuries to passenger or drivers. Another bus was sent to the scene to complete the route, Gaier says.

The school currently has very little information about the incident, but will review reports and determine if disciplinary action will be taken, according to Gaier.

?We?ll get a copy of the report. We?ll meet with the driver and see if any (disciplinary) action needs to take place,? Gaier says.

The school called the parents of each of the students to alert them to the accident.
