GRANTON SCHOOL BOARD AGREES ON NEW SUPERINTENDENT

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006 -- 8:33 AM

A Stratford man will likely be the next superintendent at Granton Area Schools.

Interim superintendent Jerry Nelson has held the position since 2001. The School Board accepted his resignation in January.

Ten applicants expressed an interest in the job; four of those applicants were interviewed. Last night, the Board agreed to offer the position to Rick Rehm (REEM) of Stratford. He currently serves as the Director of Educational Talent at North Central Technical College.

Rehm, who?s been out of town, must still accept the position and a contract will be worked out.

The board advertised the job as a ?60-percent? position, meaning the new administrator will work three days a week.

Nelson says his last day will be June 30th.

Also last night, the Board considered a consolidation feasibility study from the Colby School District. Nelson says the Board isn?t interested in participating at this time, but expressed an interest in exploring more areas of potential collaboration.

The Board also laid off one part-time and one full-time elementary teacher last night.
