A Granton man is facing charges after an October hunting accident in which he shot a man who he mistook for a deer.Forty-year-old Gary Bartsch has been charged with a felony count of causing injury while using a dangerous weapon. The criminal complaint says Bartsch shot Jason LaFratta, 30, of Waukesha while hunting near Alma Center in Jackson County. Bartsch told authorities the sun hampered his vision and he thought LaFratta was a deer.
LaFratta was dressed completely in blaze orange. The two were 68-feet away when LaFratta was shot in the leg. The complaint says Bartsch attended to LaFratta, then drove to a residence to summon help.
