Greenwood School Board Hears School Operations Update

The Greenwood School Board heard a school operations update.

The Board received an update on the isolation and quarantine procedures and affirmed the plan administration is using for isolation and quarantines. The Board also received additional information regarding the district-sponsored reading teacher licensing program.

The Board directed administration to continue developing this opportunity. The Board also received the AGR mid-year report. The Board also received an update on ESSER funds, reviewed the Lawn mowing bids for 2022-23, and accepted the bid from John’s Lawn Care LLC.

The Board also received an update on the January Enrollment Report and received an update on the 2021-2022 budget. The Board also approved the 2021-22 District Priorities and approved the second reading of NEOLA Policy Update 30-2.

The Board tabled a discussion of employee compensation for 2022-23 and received the timeline for the non-renewal of professional staff. The Board also accepted $2,000 from the Wuethrich Foundation for elementary youth sports programs.

They also accepted the resignations of Dylan North as the SPED assistant/Basketball coach and Kandice Schoolmaster as an Educational assistant. The Board approved Margie Olson as a long-term SPED assistant.

They also approved the Science Club’s day trip to Duluth. The Board also heard the Committee Reports. Board Member Jerome Krempasky highlighted some of the sessions he attended at the WASB Convention.

The Buildings and Grounds Committee discussed the proposed garage project, RFP is posted, the lawn mowing bids for 2022 and 2023 were reviewed and discussed, and they began initial discussions of possible summer projects.

The Board also heard the Administrators’ Report. Elementary Principal Joe Green:

  • Shared an update on the planning for summer school;
  • A preview of the Literacy Night on March 3;
  • Elementary recreation program is joining a local volleyball league for 4-6 grade girls;
  • Planning is underway to do some pruning and clearing of scrub trees and brush in the outdoor classroom;
  • And the Forward Exam test window is March 21-April 29.

District Administrator Todd Felhofer reported on:

  • A study regarding the State of Wisconsin per-pupil spending, in 2002, Wisconsin per-pupil spending was 12th highest in the US and 11% above the national average, in 2019, Wisconsin per-pupil spending was 25th highest and 5% below the average;
  • Juniors completed the ACT Boot Camp on January 24th;
  • The ACT test will be administered on March 8th;
  • The D/F list for the 2nd quarter indicated some improvement from last year.

The Board also heard two presentations including Jo Elmer and the cast and crew members of the 1-Act Play and Jon Trautman of CLA presented the annual district audit report.

Finally, during the Communications from the Public portion of the meeting, a community member spoke in support of the proposed bill to change concealed carry law on school grounds.
