Wausau Mayor Defends Refugees in the City After Recent Arrest

Monday, February 14th, 2022 -- 2:01 PM

(Bob Hague, WRN) The arrest of an Afghan man on sexual assault allegations has put Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg on the defensive, regarding the presence of refugees in the city.

“I know it’s hard to hear about this and not try to extrapolate this to be some kind of cultural thing, but really it shouldn’t be. This is a hard thing for our community, and I understand people are scared, but I hope people understand it shouldn’t be a reflection of an entire culture.”

The man accused of 4th degree sexual assault was arrested last week and immediately released on a signature bond. As of Sunday there is no scheduled court action in the case, and details of the criminal complaint have not been released.
