Wisconsin Republican Lawmakers Propose Changes to State's K-12 Public Education

Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 -- 9:00 AM

(Bob Hague, WRN) Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature propose big changes to K-12 public education in Wisconsin.

Senate Education Committee chair, Senator Alberta Darling of River Hills, says a package of legislation aims to put children and families first. Darling, a long-time critic of Milwaukee Public Schools and supporter of school choice, wants to dismantle the state’s largest K-12 district and establish “smaller community districts that are more manageable and accountable.”

Other bills establish several parental rights and allow parents to sue if those are violated, and establish uniform standards for school accountability reports.
