State Health Officials Urge People to Reconsider New Year's Plans With Large Crowds

Friday, December 31st, 2021 -- 10:01 AM

(Bob Hague, WRN) Many large New Year’s Eve celebrations are still scheduled in Wisconsin.

Others are canceled due to coronavirus concerns. Froedert Hospital infectious disease specialist Dr. Joyce Sanchez says you should strongly consider a smaller, low-key celebration.

“When it comes to the mixing and mingling of people, and the degree of increasing cases, it’s going to be hard to do some of those things and feel very good about it.” Dr. Sanchez says people should think of how decisions will affect the community days or weeks into the future.

“It’s too late to protect yourself for the New Year’s Eve party, but it’s not too late to protect yourself for what we all anticipate may be a really bad January surge.”

The advice comes as COVID cases, hospitalizations and deaths continue on an upward trajectory across the state and nation.
