GREENWOOD FOUNDATION CHANGES NAME, SEEKS DONATIONS

Monday, February 20th, 2006 -- 11:57 AM

A non-profit group from Greenwood has changed its name ? and its attitude. Greenwood Festivals, Incorporated has reorganized and changed its name to ?The Dr. William A. Olson Community Foundation?.

Foundation member Dick Adler says Greenwood Festivals, Incorporated was organized in the 1960?s to oversee the annual Dairy Days event, they then operated the Greenwood Clinic until the Marshfield Clinic took over in 1980. Since then, they've been operating as a philanthropic venture, partially or fully funding many local projects.

The group is reinvigorated and chomping at the bit to raise some money through contributions from people with Greenwood ties, Adler says.

"We have a lot of successful people that moved away over the years," Adler notes. "They still have strong ties to the community."

The Foundation has donated about $50,000 over the years and has a current balance of around $42,000.

One reason for more aggressive attitude is the Foundation?s desire to help the Greenwood school system.

"There's always supplemental things I'm sure we can help them out with. The smaller items," Adler says. "We're going to use the interest only and retain the principle."
