Authorities Investigating Remains Found at Fort McCoy

State and federal authorities are investigating remains found at Fort McCoy over the weekend.

According to the Public Affairs Office at Fort McCoy, the FBI is leading the investigation. Other agencies involved include the Army Criminal Investigation Division, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and Fort McCoy Directorate of Emergency Services. Identification of the body is pending.

However, an FBI public affairs officer stated there is no reason to believe the incident is related to the evacuees who have been housed there. They don’t believe the incident involves active duty military personnel either. More information will be released when available.
