CONTROVERSIAL PLAN COULD BE REMOVED FROM TABLE TONIGHT (TUESDAY)

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006 -- 9:33 AM

Will this be the night the Clark County Board passes the ?Year 2025 Comprehensive Plan??

It was looking like action on the plan was going to be delayed until at least April, but Granton-area supervisor Fritz Garbisch floated a possible amendment that got it back on the agenda for tonight?s board meeting.

If amended and passed tonight, the plan wouldn't be activated until 2010 and it would be ?void and unenforceable? if the state legislature rescinds the ?Smart Growth? legislation.

Garbisch said he hopes this amendment would be a ?compromise? people could live with. While plan supporters have said they could live with it, plan opponents oppose it.

In December, the board voted 19-8 to table action on the ordinance until April. Clark County Corporation Counsell Frank Vasquez has advised County Board Chairman Wayne Hendrickson the motion ?to remove from the table? needs a second, is not debatable, not amendable and requires a simple majority.

Tonight?s meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the board room of the courthouse.
