PRESS CONFERENCE SCHEDULED ON RUDY MATTER

Friday, January 13th, 2006 -- 2:15 PM

The Clark County Sheriff?s Department has scheduled a Thursday press conference on the Christine Rudy case.

Christine Rudy, 21, was reported missing on November 14th. Her husband, Shaun Rudy, said he last saw his wife on November 12th when he left her on County Trunk Hwy ?MM? near the Eau Claire County border.

She was believed to be six-months pregnant.

After exhaustive searches, the Clark County Sheriff?s Department announced in mid-December they found remains that were later identified as being those of Christine Rudy and the investigation had turned "criminal".

The Sheriff?s Department Friday issued a press release announcing a press conference on the case. It will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Clark County Courthouse. Officials say they won?t release information until that time.

The Sheriff?s Department has been tight-lipped about the investigation since announcing the positive identification of the remains on December 16th.

At this point, much remains unclear: While the Sheriff?s Department says the death did not appear ?natural?, the cause of the death has not been established; officials have not announced the location the remains were found or if they had been altered.

More recently, there was a good deal of intrigue surrounding a search of the Chippewa River in Chippewa County. At the time, Clark County officials told WCCN there were no active searches regarding the case in Clark County, but said they could ?neither confirm or deny? searches were taking place in other jurisdictions.

Again, after nearly a month of silence, the Clark County Sheriff?s Department has scheduled a press conference on the Christine Rudy case. It will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday. [b]We?ll carry it live on all of our Central Wisconsin Broadcasting stations.[/b}
