HEATING BILLS UP

Friday, January 13th, 2006 -- 10:17 AM

A state agency says Wisconsin's heating fuel prices have increased by about a third compared to last winter. The Department of Administration says average natural gas prices were up nearly 29-percent as of January 3rd.

Heating oil prices were up 34-percent while propane was up 16 percent.

Secretary Steve Bablitch says the increases are "sticker shock" numbers. One X-factor in heating bills, however, has been the recent spate of warm weather.

The figures were announced a day after We Energies won permission from the Public Service Commission to raise rates 11 percent on electric customers and three to four percent on gas customers.
